In the subscription box that I received from How You Brewin Coffee, there were four full-size 12-ounce resealable bags of coffee featuring their new bag design. These included their House Roast, Costa Rican Pico, Bourbon Pecan, and Coffee Cake whole bean coffees.
House Roast
The first bag of coffee I reviewed was How You Brewin’s signature House Roast, which is also one of their most popular options when it comes to single-origins.
It’s a Colombian Supremo medium roast coffee that is said to have a full body, mild acidity, and intense flavor and makes for a rather rich cup.
Flavor notes for this coffee include citrus and a clean finish with an overall well-balanced experience. Upon my own brewing, I noticed that the aroma was very bright and fruity with a rather rich base.
Its taste was very rich and acidic, definitely giving off an intense citrus flavor and featuring a bold flavor overall. A nice and simple cup of coffee, perfect for a House Roast!
Costa Rican Pico
The second single-origin option that How You Brewin sent me was the Costa Rican Pico, which comes from the popular coffee-growing region of Costa Rica. It’s said that this dark roast coffee has a full body, robust richness, mild acidity, and a clean finish.
When I opened the bag, I noticed that these beans were quite oily, which wasn’t the best, but I also noted that the aroma was rich and pungent.
Its taste was everything that How You Brewin described, creating a bold and rich cup that was wonderfully dark with just a touch of acidity.
As someone who rather enjoys a cup of dark roast coffee, this was definitely one of my favorites that I believe worked great for a darker option!
Bourbon Pecan
The next coffee I got was one of How You Brewin’s many infamous flavored options. The Bourbon Pecan flavored coffee is one that’s inspired by slow-roasted Southern pecans and Kentucky bourbon sauce.
It’s said that this coffee tastes sweet, caramelized, and roasty, just like that of bourbon pecans. When I got to brewing my own beans, I noticed that the aroma held a sweet, rich, and syrupy smell that was almost reminiscent of fall flavors.
Overall, the taste was very rich and nutty, featuring a subtle sweetness. A delicious flavored coffee that’s warm and inviting!
Coffee Cake
The other bag of flavored coffee beans that was sent to me is one of How You Brewin’s most popular picks: Coffee Cake! This flavored coffee represents everything great about the delectable treat of coffee cake.
With a delicious aroma of sweet butter, sugar, and cinnamon, you’ll think you’ve just pulled some out of the oven! Upon my own brewing, I found that it really did smell strongly of sweet buttery cinnamon.
Its taste also had a strong cinnamon flavor with buttery smoothness and a slightly sweet undertone. A simple yet yummy cup of flavored coffee!
