Peace Coffee: Company History/Overview
The company of Peace Coffee was actually founded by a nonprofit called the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP). In a goal to help farmers, they decided to ship coffee from Chiapas, Mexico to Minneapolis starting in 1996.
Peace Coffee soon grew into a brand that would sell 100% fair trade certified and organic coffee that was grown by smaller farmers who were part of local cooperatives. They maintain sustainability and transparency through the creation of Cooperative Coffees, which allows them to directly import from the farmers.
In 2018, Peace Coffee was purchased by Lee Wallace, who had been asked by IATP to take over the ownership of the company for continuous growth. After that, Peace Coffee became an independently-owned company and Lee has kept the same mission for the brand while giving it the opportunity to grow into its even bigger potential.

In the beautifully packaged box that I received from Peace Coffee to review, there were three bags of coffee that were equally as beautiful as the box, featuring fun designs. These included Morning Glory, Peru – Single Origin, and Tree Hugger.
Morning Glory
The first bag of coffee, Morning Glory, is one of Peace Coffee’s signature blends. It’s labeled as a lush and uplifting light roast from Café Orgánico Marcala S.A. de C.V. (COMSA), Fero Cooperative, and Cooperative Del Sur Del Cauca (COSURCA).
COMSA is a cooperative that was founded in 2001, has 1,157 members, and grows at an elevation of 1,200-1,800 meters. Fero Cooperative was founded in 1998, has 5,027 members, and grows at an elevation of 1,800-2,000 meters. COSURCA is a cooperative that was founded in 2000, has 1,485 members, and grows at an elevation of 1,500-1,950 meters.
This coffee is said to bring a sweet balance with its aroma notes of caramel, dried fruit, and roasted hazelnut, and its tasting notes of cocoa, citrus, and golden raisin.
Upon brewing, I found the aroma to be sweet and toasty with just a hint of tangy fruit. It had a smooth body, a chocolatey and almost toasty base, with underlying citrus acidity.
Peru – Single Origin
The single origin I received from Peace Coffee was a medium roast originating in Peru. It comes from the cooperative Central Fronteriza del Norte de Cafetaleros (CENFROCAFE), which was founded in 2000 and has 2,618 farmer members.
This is one of Peace’s signature roasts and is described as a sweet and smooth coffee that’s both balanced and intriguing. Aroma notes include almond, caramelized sugar, toasted hazelnut, and vanilla. Tasting notes include caramel, milk chocolate, apricot jam, and fresh butter.
Once I got to brewing, I noticed that the aroma was sweet, nutty, and delicious! It left me curious for a sip of the brew and all the aroma notes listed definitely held true.
It had a silky sweet chocolatey flavor base with an underlying soft acidity and a smooth buttery finish. Overall, this was a very delicious cup of single-origin coffee!
Tree Hugger
The last coffee I got in my box was another of Peace Coffee’s signature blends. Tree Hugger is a dark roast that’s described as nutty and adventurous. It comes from PROCOCER, Manos Campesinas, and COMSA.
PROCOCER is a cooperative that was founded in 1998, has 662 members, and grows at an elevation of 850-1,270 meters. Manos Campesinas is a cooperative that was founded in 1997, has 1,340 members, and grows at an elevation of 1,200-1,800 meters. COMSA is the same cooperative featured in Morning Glory.
Tree Hugger was created as a way to show appreciation for trees, which provide shade to grow our beloved coffee and therefore play a very important role in the lives of coffee people. Aroma notes include toasted walnut, vanilla, and caramelized sugar. Tasting notes include molasses, smoky, and chocolate brownie.
Upon brewing, I found that the aroma was excellently nutty and decadently sweet, offering a warm and inviting entrance to the brew. Its taste was dark, smoky, chocolatey, and smooth. Overall, it was a great dark cup of coffee with very light acidity.

Peace Coffee uses its long-term partnerships with small-scale coffee farms to source only the best fair trade certified and organic coffee from around the world. These 100% Arabica beans are shade-grown, B Corp Certified, and low-acid.
Once they’re brought to Peace Coffee’s roastery in Minneapolis, which is located inside a building that uses solar energy, geothermal heat, rooftop beehives, and repurposed materials, they’re then freshly roasted in small batches and delivered to customers. Through the entire coffee process, Peace remains a sustainable and responsible brand.

At the time of writing, most of the bags of beans from Peace Coffee are priced between $12.75-$63.75, depending on bag size. This is, of course, with 15% off through a subscription. So, any of the 12-ounce bags that I received would be $12.75 if you chose to subscribe to them.

How to Cancel Peace Coffee
It’s easy to make any changes to your Peace Coffee subscription by logging into your account on their website and going to the Subscriptions tab. There, you can edit which product is getting sent to you or add another one, suspend your subscription until you’re ready to activate it again, and change any billing or shipping information.
If you’ve decided to cancel your Peace Coffee subscription, you can also do so under the Subscriptions tab on your account. There will be a button that gives you the option to resubscribe once you do cancel just in case you decide to come back to Peace Coffee.
