Quintal Coffee Subscription Review: The Freshest Coffee

There’s nothing better tasting than coffee that’s freshly roasted. You can truly taste the difference between fresh coffee and coffee that’s been sitting around for a bit.

Of course, if you’ve ever traveled to a coffee-producing country, you might notice that coffee there is even fresher than most. This is because it’s both harvested and roasted there.

But if you aren’t lucky enough to live in one of these countries, it can be a bit harder to get coffee this fresh. Quintal Coffee noticed this problem and decided to provide a solution by roasting directly at the origin of the coffee.

Quintal Coffee Subscription Review: The Freshest Coffee Possible

Quintal Coffee: Company History/Overview

The company of Quintal Coffee was founded in 2021 by Otto and Eduardo, who both grew up in Latin America. They discovered that bringing coffee back from their home countries of Guatemala and Colombia meant it was fresh for much longer and tasted significantly better.

They decided to create a coffee subscription service that roasted coffee at its origin, guaranteeing the freshest coffee possible. Every bag of Quintal coffee is full of beans that were hulled just before they were roasted and then shipped off to customers.

Quintal Coffee became the first origin-roasted coffee subscription in the U.S. and ensures that its beans are roasted fresh in the producing country where they are harvested. This method not only preserves the flavors and robustness of the coffee but also provides a truly unique experience.

With Quintal Coffee, the coffee is always rotating since they send the most recent harvest. When I received my bag of Quintal in the mail, it was the Quintal No. 20, also known as Riviera Triad.

Before even getting to the actual bag, the packaging was already very informative, describing how the coffee was roasted at its origin.

Quintal No. 20 – Riviera Triad

Presented in a simplistic black and white 10-ounce bag with everything you need to know about this blend, Riviera Triad is special to Quintal because it’s actually a blend of three coffees rather than their usual single-origin lineup.

This coffee is roasted by Andres Quinceno in Finca La Riviera, Colombia, and includes a triad of coffees that are amazing on their own but work beautifully together.

It’s full of a variety of Gesha, Bourbon, and Tekisic. Gesha for the sweet vanilla, Bourbon for the bright acidity, and Tekisic for a great body and aftertaste.

The tasting notes for this blend include plum and vanilla, it’s washed processed, grown at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level in the region of Risaralda, Colombia, and was harvested in November 2022, just two months before it was roasted at origin and shipped out.

The aroma of Quintal No. 20 was very sweet, tangy, and fruity. It had a very interesting and inviting smell to it, one that made me eager to try it.

Its taste was smooth, well-balanced, and delicious. I thought it was fruity and sweet without being overbearing. Overall, this was a great cup of coffee, very easy to drink, and you could definitely tell just how fresh this bag was.

Quintal Coffee actually only sells one subscription and a few options of gift bundles. With this subscription, you get freshly harvested and roasted coffee delivered to you once a month. This coffee is harvested in Latin America just 2-3 months before it’s roasted and shipped out, but hulled just before being roasted at its origin.

It’s only sold in whole bean form in 10-ounce resealable bags, but each month you get a different single-origin that is fresh, rich, and exotic. Each bag is shipped the last week of every month so that you can get a guaranteed schedule of new coffee to try.

Quintal Coffee: Roasting

As you may have noticed, the most important thing about Quintal Coffee is the method of sourcing and roasting. They actually carefully store the green coffee that they harvest close to, or directly at, the farm that it’s sourced from in a way that keeps the coffee “alive.”

Since Quintal Coffee roasts their coffee in the countries of origin, they also remain sustainable by paying fairly for skilled profiling, roasting, and packaging. They work to minimize the number of steps coffee has to go through in order to get to customers.

By just having to go from farms directly to roasting in the producing country, Quintal’s coffee can ship straight from its origin, cutting the traditional coffee industry process in half.

Quintal Coffee: Pricing

At the time of writing, the price of Quintal Coffee’s subscription, which ships a new bag of freshly harvested and roasted single-origin coffee every month, sits at about $20. This is for one 10-ounce bag of whole-bean, high-quality coffee that’s literally as fresh as it can get.

Plus, if you’re getting your coffee shipped within the U.S., you even get free shipping on your subscription orders!

What Makes Quintal Coffee Unique?

Quintal Coffee definitely stands out as a subscription service considering it provides the freshest coffee possible through meticulous storing and roasting at the source.

The coffee from Quintal is alive thanks to the use of freshly harvested green beans. The company will tell you that their origin-roasted method is “fairer to producing countries because [they] are helping producing countries to step up in the value chain by paying for the roasting.”

How To Cancel Quintal Coffee

While the frequency of Quintal Coffee’s subscription can’t be changed because it’s a service that only ships out a rotating coffee every month, you can always choose to pause or cancel your subscription at any time.

This can easily be done by logging into your subscription portal on the Quintal Coffee website and choosing to pause or cancel there.
