The Yes Plz Coffee company was founded by Tony “Tonx” Konecny and Sumi Ali. Together, they believed that everyone should have access to great coffee. This meant sourcing coffee that tastes delicious under any brew method.
Konecny had been working in the coffee world since its “third wave” movement. Konecny noticed that coffee connoisseurs were creating a statement that in order to make delicious coffee at home, you had to be willing to drop some money on extensive equipment.
In an attempt to mend this idealism, Konecny created Tonx Coffee, which ended up being the first exclusively direct-to-consumer roaster. They sold to Blue Bottle Coffee in 2014, but there was still more to discover within their mission.
Ali joined Konecny as a roaster and they soon launched Yes Plz Coffee to continue the goal of making coffee delicious for all home brewers.

In the subscription box that I received from Yes Plz Coffee, there were three full bags of beans to try, all packaged in simple and beautiful designs.
Since the beans change weekly for every product that they offer, the bags that I received were the Delicious Decaf: Cerrado Select and Royal Natural, The Mix 219 “Beauty Shop,” and the Single Origin: Roger Chilcon Flores.
Delicious Decaf: Cerrado Select and Royal Natural
The Yes Plz Weekly dispatch 219 had a Delicious Decaf that was actually a blend of two decaf coffees. In the simplistic clear bag of beans that I received were Cerrado Select and Royal Natural.
Cerrado Select is a decaf coffee from Minas Gerais, Brazil, and Royal Natural is a decaf coffee from Cauca, Colombia. Together, they create a mellow brew that has tasting notes of Graham cracker, honey, and pear.
Upon brewing a cup of this Delicious Decaf using my French press, I found the aroma to be a rather interesting one. It was sweet, slightly toast, and had just a hint of fruitiness. The Graham cracker note was easy to pick out among the crowd and made me eager to give it a taste.
Just as it promised, this was a mellow cup of joe that had a flavor profile that wasn’t very prominent, so I wasn’t overwhelmed with a fruity, sweet, or toasty brew.
It had a nice warm base of Graham cracker that was well-complemented by the sweetness of the honey and pear notes.
The Mix 219 “Beauty Shop”
My next bag of beans from Yes Plz Coffee was The Mix, which is their flagship that features a brand new unique blend every single week.
The dispatch I received, 219, was called “Beauty Shop,” which had a blend of Roger Chilcon Flores and La Esmeralda.
The Roger Chilcon Flores coffee originates from Cajamarca, Peru and the La Esmeralda coffee comes from Comoyagua, Honduras. Tasting notes for this blend include dried fruit, caramel, candy bar, and praline.
Once I got to brewing The Mix 219 in my French press, I noticed that the aroma was very strong, nutty, and fruity. It was a great combination of both bold and sweet.
That being said, it did taste a bit more mellow than the aroma gave off, but it was definitely a warm, toasty, sweet, and inviting sip. It had a slight tang from the dried fruit note, a subtle nutty base, and a nice sweet finish.
Single Origin: Roger Chilcon Flores
The Single Origin Selection from the 219 dispatch of Yes Plz Weekly was actually one of the coffees featured in The Mix: Roger Chilcon Flores from Cajamarca, Peru.
Roger Chilcon Flores is a producer in El Diamante, Peru that has been featured for a few seasons in Yes Plz Coffee’s selections. Tasting notes for this single origin include caramel, marzipan, and blackberry.
The aroma of this coffee allowed you to smell a bit more of the sweetness than when it was blended with La Esmeralda.
Overall, this was another easy-to-drink cup of coffee that had a more sweet-focused base to it. The hint of blackberry provided just the slightest amount of acidity, leaving a well-balanced cup.
